2005 4th of July Celebration: Rooftop Fireworks

2006 4th of July Celebration: Town Lake Bridge : Events like this just go to show you that even when things go slightly wrong, with the right spirit you can always salvage a complete winner! I arrived at the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge about two hours before the even started, in order to 'reserve' a good spot for myself (I ended up setting up and standing in one of the large planters!). Ominous storm clouds started to gather, and it was clear that it would probably rain. It started to pour down pretty heavily about an hour before the fireworks started, and the Lamar Bridge across from us started to fill up with cars, probably from spectators at Zilker abandoning their spots and going home. The group on the pedestrian bridge was made of sterner stuff than that! We persevered through the weather, joking around with each other. As a photographer, I know that the very best pictures are usually made during changes in the weather, so I tried to make the best of the uncomfortable situation! A hearty cheer out to Arik and his family, and to Kat and Megan for their great spirits! A few lessons learned: 1) Bring an umbrella 2) For fireworks with a foreground subject as well, set your camera for hyperfocal distance instead of focussing at infinity.
