Los Angeles Galleries

Griffith Observatory : Los Angeles is famed for its great Art Deco buildings, constructed in the 30s and 40s. The Griffith Observatory, constructed in the late 1930s, is one such building. Closed in 2002 for renovation, it recently (last month) reopened for tours and visitation. All the parking in the park has been closed off, so we had to take busses up to and back from the observatory.

Needless to say, the building is a glorious example of the smooth, streamlined art deco style. I highly recomend it to anyone interested in the style of architecutre. I plan on visiting again, this time to set up my exposures near the glorious light of sunset.

Disney Concert Hall : The Disney Concert hall lies on the corner of Grand Avenue and 1st Street, in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles. The building displays the typical Frank Gherry-designed flowing lines, a style not possible until the advent of composite construction techniques. It is a beautiful building, in a completely different fashion than the more traditional buildings found elsewhere in downtown L.A.

It's illuminating to compare the building to the Griffith Observatory, found elsewhere in my gallery.
