California Highway One : For an atheist such as myself, driving up California Highway One is about as close as I have had to a religious experience. In the 6 or so hours it takes to get to San Jose from Los Angeles, you will experience some of the most breathtaking natural beauty that the U.S.A. has to offer. After taking the 1 to San Jose for my summer job in 2004, I became determined to do it again. Having done so, I am now determined to do it every year. I could spend a lifetime there and never tire of it. Even while driving up the road, there are countless trailheads right off the road leading up into the mountains.
