Ryon (Skorz) > The crowd mills about the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge, waiting for the July 4th, 2006 fireworks show to begin. Meanwhile, the lack of cloud cover to the west allows the glorious last rays of the sun to brilliantly illuminate the buildings of downtown, and cast the entire scene in warm tones.
Ryon (Skorz) > Taken just nine minutes after the first photo of this subject, the glow in the sky fades and the lights' reflection in the water grows stronger, and the orange of sodium lights begins to dominate the scene, except for the lone out-of-place mercury/florescent lamp in the middle of the bridge. The smaller aperture and longer exposure used in this shot increases the smoothness of the water's surface.
Ryon (Skorz) > The sun sets over lake Austin, the orange glow of the streetlamps matching the last rays of the sun as they reflect off the water.

Sadly, the christmas-type lights strung across the bridge's arches have been off for the past few months. I plan on recreating this shot when someone gets around to fixing them.
Ryon (Skorz) > You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike.

It is not possible to white-balance the sodium lamps, because they emit only a single, orange wavelength of light.

Another frame-in-a-frame experiment.
Ryon (Skorz) > Looking to the southwest and up at the railroad trestle over Riverside Avenue. The sodium vapor lamps, omnipresent in cities, destroy color rendition, causing even the green leaves to appear yellow-orange in color. In my opinion, these lamps are responsible for much of the ugliness in today's urban life.
Ryon (Skorz) > Underneath the 1st Street bridge, looking North. The monochromatic glow of sodium vapor lamps illuminates everything in orange-yellow. I composed this photograph to attempt a frame-within-a-frame looks.
Ryon (Skorz) > Sadly, rush hour coincides with the setting sun in Autumn. The majority of these commuters will arrive home just as darkness settles in, an excuse, along with being too exhausted from their time-consuming drive to their affordable suburban castle, to pursure meaningful passtimes or hobbies. This relegates them to an evening of TV watching, the American passtime, suckling at the glass teat in a desperate attempt to stave off and distract them from their constantly gnawing feelings of inadequacy and existential angst.
